American Academy of Audiology Convention

Dr. Whitaker attended the nation’s largest audiology conference this week in San Antonio. This conference is an opportunity for our doctors to continue to learn how to best treat our patients. It is also an opportunity to explore the latest in technology.

audiology-now-pictureTwo exciting new technologies will soon be available. The first is a rechargeable battery that can be used with your existing hearing aids. This battery, made by a company called ZPower, will require a new battery door be placed on your hearing aids. Then, special rechargeable batteries will be put in the hearing aids. These batteries will reportedly last 24 hours on a single charge, even with frequent wireless streaming. The batteries will charge on a portable charger that looks like a little black box. The hearing aids simply sit on top of the box with a magnetic connection. The batteries should last approximately one year and should be available this fall. We are exited about the convenience this new technology will provide.

Second, a new smartphone app is now available for users of the iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy S5 that can be used as part of a tinnitus treatment plan. It is made by ReSound and is called ReSound Relief. It allows users to create their own soothing sounds to help manage their tinnitus. These sounds can be streamed to hearing aids or played directly from your phone.
